Video: Voice of the Light
By: Corrine Wenborg
An animation done with mostly black and white scale. The music that is being used as the soundtrack has a calming and depressing tone to it. There aren’t lyrics that are understandable, however there does seem to be someone singing in another language. It starts with a boy character sitting and has a necklace hanging from his hand, and the dark background starts to light up as he looks up. Then images of a girl are shown then it flashes to images of a boy being shown on a white background. The characters are happy in these images then it flashes back to the darker background with the boy character crying. Then a ball of light starts to grow and he gets up and starts walking towards it. As he reaches out to touch it his hand it met by the girl’s hand. Then it flashes to the girl character on a darker background looking sad. Then the two are facing face to face with little space in between them. The necklace is shown in the boy’s hand, where it starts to glow. Then both the girl and boy smile and move in toward each other, and this is where it ends.
This video made me think of a dream where you were so happy in the dream but when you woke up you became depressed because it wasn’t real. It also reminded me of a romantic movie where a couple breaks up and they both start to have flashbacks about how they had good times. And then they somehow bump into each other and realize that they should be together. It has a depressing and an up lifting tone through out the piece, and I think that this works. This is because I feel it where to have just a depressing or an uplifting tone it might not be as interesting to the viewer.
Research for Independent Project
The first step I took in my research was to look up artists who used abstractions when doing camouflage work. While I had a hard time with camouflage abstractions I started to just look up artists who did camouflage work. This search led me to Liu Bolin who is a chinese artists who paints himself into the different scenery around China. Then next artist I looked up was the body artist, Emma Hack, who I found while watching the music video for Somebody That I Used To Know by Goyte. The way that she gradually painted the signers into the background really helped me figure out how I would want to do my painting. Other artists that I looked up were the contestants from Face Off because they had a challenge where they had to camouflage a model into a background. Mostly my research was of artist that did the same kind of work that I am looking to do.

Reviewed Piece:
Monday Acrylic on Canvas. Beth Kuzmovich
The size of this painting was not listed but it was in between 12 inches by 12 inches and 18 inches by 18 inches. This was an abstract painting where the technique of Impasto was used, or thick application of paint, and there is a semi0glossy finish to the paint. The colors that were used were black, a light green that resembled a sea foam green color, very light brown and a black. Black is the main color in this painting and covers majority of the canvas. the abstract figure resembles a human figure, from the waist up, sitting down. The forms in the background were also abstract.
This painting made me think of being in a lonely place where you are feeling sad and hopeless. I started to think of a rainy day where things were not going my way and how I felt like there wasn’t much to look forward to. And then I got the feeling of having a little hope and see a light at the end of the tunnel. The feelings that I got from this painting were mixed, and I could relate this painting to points in my life where I have grieved for a lost loved one, where I have felt like something was impossible and somehow made it through, or just a day where I wake up and do not feel like getting out of bed.
Frye: Susie J. Lee
Susie J. Lee’s piece Rain Shower was an LED/sound installation with programmed audio and visuals. The installation was in a large room that was dark except for the little bit of light that was pouring in from the other two rooms. The room was completely cleared out expect for two benches that were on opposite sides of the room, they were placed in the middle of the walls. The lights were the kind of lights that you would put on your christmas tree and they were white with a very light blue tint. These lights were on the celling projecting onto the floor in a flashing manner and the lights seemed to be synced up to the sound of rain falling. They were secured onto the celling with what looked like rods. When I first walked into the room there were sounds of rain drops and a piano playing. The rain drop sound was light and didn’t sound planned out and the piano playing was clam and gave off a relaxing feeling. After a little while the piano sound stopped and you just heard the rain drop sound and then all the sounds stopped and then just the lights were being projected onto the floor. For a moment the lights stopped as well and then they came back on and the rain drop sound was the only sound playing. A little bit after this a sound of a male voice came on and started to talk softly and calmly.
While sitting in the room I became more relaxed and could visualize sitting next to a window and watching the rain hit the glass. While sitting in this room while the piece was going in I forgot about everything else. I ignored all the people going in and out of the room and the noise that they were making. I was able to zone out and just listen to the audio that was playing. I was enchanted by simplicity and complexity of the piano playing, rain drop sounds, voice over, and lighting that was all happening at once.
Exhibition Space
I would like to start an exhibition space that caters to artists that have not had a big break yet or are trying to stay underground. The name of this exhibition will be titled UNDERGROUND and this space will have show for first thursdays and inbetween depending on which artist is showing. This space will be created utilizing the place where I am currently living. My plan for promotion is to advertise my space on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and others.
Thursday Night Write Up: Cinematic Space
Cinematic space is usually used to create and develop a character, a narrative, or a space. You can use many different techniques to create this space, or you can find a space that already exists and utilize that. You do need to think about what is in the frame, or mise-en-scene, which means being aware of what objects, props, scenery, and how much of each the viewer will be able to see. When thinking about how much detail the viewer can see you need to focus on the shot distance. If it is a picture is the camera right in front of the subject, a little farther back, very far away or in the middle. Another way to think about this is proximity; intimate space which is right agains the subject, personal space which is a little farther back but still close, or social space which lets you see the subject and the area around it. Cinematic space can also be described as a space within a space. For example, if you have a video feed that you are playing and it is being projected onto a wall, the wall become a stage (space) for the video and the video is another space. Therefore a space within a space, and yet it can also be a made up/created space. An example of that would be stop motion using tiny objects, because a world is being created that our brain knows is not a life size or real place.

Subject matter:
The subject matter for this piece isn’t recognizable.
Medium:
This was a sculpture piece that was made out of bamboo, rattan, plywood and metal wire. The way that the artist created this piece isn’t obvious, however it looked like the wire was the last to be used because to was wrapped around the horizontal and vertical lines to keep them in place.
Form:
There are three forms, that are all separate from each other, and the biggest form in the middle is realistic. The other two forms on the left and right side of the biggest piece, are made up of cylinder shapes. The forms on the left is up right, and is balancing on the tips of the objects. While the forms on the right is stack on top of each other like a pyramid. The middle form is made up of stacked cubes, rectangles, and cylinder shapes.
